Local stocks ended marginally lower

The key domestic indices closed marginally lower. Nifty Media, Nifty Realty and Nifty Chemicals shares advanced, while Nifty Healthcare Index and Nifty Pharma shares fell.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, edged lower by 48.78 points to 72,480.29. The Nifty 50 index down 95.75 points to 22,620.45. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex declined by 2.25% and 1.92%, respectively.

The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index moved lower by 0.17% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index remained flat.

The market breadth was soft. On the BSE, 2502 shares rose and 2738 shares retreated. A total of 233 shares were unchanged.

HDFC Bank Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 393.65 lakh shares and saw a sharp spurt of 55.94% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has advanced by around 1.93% in last one-month and has tumbled 23.95% over last one year.

Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 325.37 lakh shares and posted a sharp rise of 165.52% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has plunged around 3.20% in last one-month and has moved higher 1.93% over last one year.

Index action

The Nifty Media index rose sharply by 2.74% to 1583.2 today. The index is lower by 2.14% in last one week and has inched lower by 1.05% over last one month. It has edged lower by 1.35% in last one year. Sun TV Network Ltd (up 9.35%), PVR Inox Ltd (up 4.42%), Saregama India Ltd (up 2.65%), Tips Music Ltd (up 1.65%) and Nazara Technologies Ltd (up 1.15%) gained.

The Nifty Realty index increased by 1.62% to 847.35 today. The index has slumped by 3.21% in last one week and has lost 7.78% over last one month. It eased by 4.68% in last one year. Prestige Estates Projects Ltd (up 4.54%), DLF Ltd (up 3.22%), Lodha Developers Ltd (up 2.57%), Brigade Enterprises Ltd (up 2.17%) and Sobha Ltd (up 0.42%) traded higher.

The Nifty Healthcare Index index slumped 2.57% to 16137.75 today. The index has slipped by 0.94% in last one week and has eased by 2.24% over last one month. It has soared by 17.10% in last one year. Fortis Healthcare Ltd (down 6.33%), Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd (down 5.70%), Max Healthcare Institute Ltd (down 5.33%), Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd (down 4.37%) and Zydus Lifesciences Ltd (down 3.21%) moved down.

The Nifty Pharma index fell 1.84% to 26438.0 today. The index is slightly higher by 0.09% in last one week and has posted modest losses of 0.93% over last one month. It soared by 25.42% in last one year. Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd (down 4.37%), Wockhardt Ltd (down 3.55%), Zydus Lifesciences Ltd (down 3.21%), Gland Pharma Ltd (down 3.02%) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (down 2.60%) went down.

Global Markets

European markets showed a slight decline.

DOW futures are up by 0.06% today.

NIFTY50 futures ended modestly lower by 0.72% at 22700 and are in a premium of 80 points compared to NIFTY50.
