OPEC sees India as driving factor of global energy demand in decades ahead

The Seventh High-Level Meeting of the OPEC-India Energy Dialogue convened on 22nd September 2026 in New Delhi. Deliberations centered on oil market stability, energy security and the significance of sufficient and opportune investment throughout the petroleum sector. Both parties assessed the short-, medium- and long-term projections, highlighting India's pivotal role in worldwide economic expansion and energy demand accretion. Hardeep Singh Puri, India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, observed during the meeting that India and OPEC maintain a naturally complementary and mutually beneficial relationship and expressed gratitude to the Secretary General for his contribution in reinforcing this partnership. He stressed that India prizes its longstanding engagement with OPEC and its Member Countries, which has contributed substantially to mutual comprehension and collaboration on critical energy matters. He noted that as one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies, India will remain a key determinant of global energy demand in the coming decades.
