India's Index of Industrial Production softens in July'2026

The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) data indicates that the IIP growth rate for July 2026 is 6.7 percent, down from 7.3 percent in June 2026. The July growth rates for different sectors are as follows: Mining & Quarrying at (-) 0.9 percent, Manufacturing at 7.3 percent, Electricity & Gas Supply at 8.7 percent, and Water Supply, Sewerage & Waste Management at 7.4 percent. The Quick Estimate of IIP is 124.8, up from 117.0 in July 2025.

In the Manufacturing sector, 19 out of 23 industry groups showed positive growth in July 2026 compared to July 2025. The leading contributors were “Manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers” (22.2%), “Manufacture of electrical equipment” (28.3%), and “Manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c.” (12.1%).

According to Use-Based Classification, growth rates in July 2026 are 4.1 percent for Primary Goods, 16.1 percent for Capital Goods, 10.0 percent for Intermediate Goods, 6.9 percent for Infrastructure/Construction Goods, 10.5 percent for Consumer durables, and (-) 1.0 percent for Consumer non-durables. The main contributors to IIP growth are Intermediate Goods, Capital Goods, and Primary Goods. The index remained unchanged month-on-month.
