Local stocks finished slightly higher, NIFTY up 0.64%

The key domestic indices closed slightly higher. Nifty Media, Nifty Realty and Nifty Private Bank shares rose, while Nifty Chemicals shares declined. As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, climbed 628.04 points or 0.82% to 77,537.72. The Nifty 50 index posted modest gains of 153.55 points or 0.64% to 24,231.85. The broader market performed worse than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index added 0.53% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index moved higher by 0.48%. The market breadth was encouraging. On the BSE, 2928 shares advanced and 2223 shares retreated. A total of 226 shares were unchanged. Eternal Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 366.61 lakh shares and posted a sharp rise of 55.12% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has surged around 11.52% in last one-month and has drifted lower 0.45% over last one year. ITC Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 282.73 lakh shares and recorded a sharp spurt of 134.04% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has slumped by around 5.54% in last one-month and has tumbled 34.72% over last one year. Index action The Nifty Media index rose by 2.13% to 1621.4 today. The index has edged up by 1.18% in last one week and has moved higher by 3.22% over last one month. It is down 5.02% in last one year. Network 18 Media & Investments Ltd (up 8.98%), Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (up 5.68%), Saregama India Ltd (up 2.30%), PVR Inox Ltd (up 1.55%) and Prime Focus Ltd (up 1.22%) gained. The Nifty Realty index inched up by 1.41% to 907.95 today. The index is modestly higher by 0.62% in last one week and has edged lower 2.41% over last one month. It slipped by 0.99% in last one year. Brigade Enterprises Ltd (up 6.47%), Aditya Birla Real Estate Ltd (up 3.61%), Lodha Developers Ltd (up 2.48%), Sobha Ltd (up 2.32%) and Oberoi Realty Ltd (up 1.87%) traded higher. The Nifty Chemicals index edged lower by 0.50% to 30249.5 today. The index is slightly lower by 0.13% in last one week and has slipped by 0.31% over last one month. It is up 4.17% in last one year. Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd (down 6.14%), PCBL Chemical Ltd (down 2.10%), Coromandel International Ltd (down 1.63%), Aarti Industries Ltd (down 1.33%) and Atul Ltd (down 1.30%) slipped. The Nifty PSU Bank index inched down by 0.01% to 8616.65 today. The index has retreated by 2.27% in last one week and has edged up 0.03% over last one month. It has surged by 20.99% in last one year. Union Bank of India (down 1.19%), Indian Bank (down 0.25%), Bank of Baroda (down 0.20%), Indian Overseas Bank (down 0.06%) and State Bank of India (down 0.06%) fell. Global Markets European markets saw a mild dip. DOW futures are lower by 0.35% today. MCX Crude oil futures are firmly higher by 2.18% at Rs 8154.0 per barrel. NIFTY50 futures closed with a modest gain of 0.72% at 24290 and are in a discount of 59 points compared to NIFTY50.
